Fig Tree 'Doree'

Fig Tree 'Doree'

Fig Tree 'Doree' Code: FGS007

£28.95 28.9500 In Stock New

Ficus carica 'Dorée' (syn. 'Figue d'Or')

A very sweet tasting fig that can crop outdoors twice a year! This very old variety dates back to the 17th century and is regarded as the best flavoured fig in France. The fruits are large (75-100g) and the flesh is very smooth and pinkish-red. The tree is more compact than many varieties and heavy cropping. It is well suited to our UK climate as it is very resistant to cold and withstands wet weather very well.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Season: mid June & mid Sept.

Plant size: 2.5 litre pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Although, fig trees are associated with Mediterranean countries, with the correct choice of variety and given a sunny, sheltered site, they can be grown outside throughout the UK with great success. Figs picked fresh from the garden are juicy, sweet and fragrant. They are very useful for covering large areas such as a south or south-west facing wall or fence and trained as a fan they will eventually reach 2m (6ft 6in) high and 3-3.6m (10-12ft) wide. They also make ideal container plants on a sun-drenched patio, where they will make a very attractive garden feature. Fig trees require root restriction and for ease they can be planted in a Root Control Bag.

Our fig trees are supplied in containers and are available for despatch throughout the year.

Rootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)
£15.95 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)A Rootex bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. These medium sized bags are ideal for smaller trees and figs, which benefit from root restriction. A tree grown in a Rootex bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. Width 30cm x length 30cm x depth 45cm. Capacity: 45 litres.Buy Now
