Malus domestica 'King of the Pippins' (syn. 'Reine de Reinettes')

An extremely versatile apple that can be eaten fresh, cooked, or used for making cider. The history of this variety is somewhat confused but it is thought to have originated from France in the 18th century. Eaten fresh, the fruits are crisp and juicy with a very rich, sweet-sharp flavour. When cooked, the fruits keep their shape and are well suited to the French dessert 'Tarte Tatin'. The tree is highly productive, easy to grow and disease resistant.

Pollination: Group B.

Season: Oct - Dec.

Available for delivery: late November/December - early May.

A much loved and ever popular fruit, dessert apples (sometimes referred to as eating apples) are those varieties that are sweet enough to be eaten ‘straight from the tree’ without any cooking required. One of the delights for any home gardener is watching apples ripen on the tree and then deciding which ones are ready to be harvested. With such a diverse range of appearances and flavours ranging from hints of strawberry to aniseed, an apple variety can be found to suit everyone.

Our apple trees are grafted onto M26 semi-dwarfing rootstock, which will produce a tree that is easy to grow, easy to control and easy to pick. Bush apple trees will grow 2.4-3.6m (8-12ft) in height and spread. To ensure rapid establishment, apple trees are supplied bare-rooted and will be 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch (including the roots). Trees are available from late November to late April.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order.  All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

Apple Tree 'Topaz'
£25.95Apple Tree 'Topaz'Originating from the Czech Republic, this very disease resistant, modern dessert apple always does well in taste tests. It produces heavy crops of medium-large, orange-red striped, thin skinned apples. The flesh is crisp and juicy with a sweet-sharp flavour similar to Lord Lambourne and James Grieve (two favourite British apples which it is related to). The flavour becomes sweeter in storage. Although generally considered an eating apple, in the Czech Republic the fruits are often thinly sliced, mixed with raisins, sugar and cinnamon and wrapped in layers of puff pastry to make the most delicious apple strudel. An excellent choice for the garden as it is compact, reliable and easy to grow. Resistant to scab and mildew. Can be grown countrywide.Buy Now
