Bumblebee Hive & Wooden Shelter

Bumblebee Hive & Wooden Shelter

Bumblebee Hive & Wooden Shelter Code: XAG039

£149.95 inc. p&p 149.9500 In Stock New

Bees play an essential role in the garden pollinating fruit and flowers. With honey bee populations under decline it is important to encourage other native species to live in our gardens. Bumblebees are really good pollinators for a wide variety of crops including apples, pears, plums, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants, blueberries, tomatoes, beans and peppers. They are less dependent on weather conditions than honey bees, operating in cloudy conditions and colder weather.

Pomona Fruits can now supply colonies of the native British bumblebee (Bombus Terrestris audax). The colony consists of a queen and workers, with a supply of ‘nectar’ to feed the bumblebees if a natural source of nectar is in short supply. Place your colony in the garden, open it and the bumblebees will fly out to forage for pollen. At the end of the life of the colony, the bumblebees will die off. However new queens will be produced that will fly away to create colonies of their own. Bumblebees are docile and will only sting if severely aggravated.

Supplied with a reusable wooden shelter made from FSC-timber to protect the colony from the weather if used outdoors. The colony can also be purchased without the wooden shelter.

Available for delivery: April - July. When "in season" hives are despatched direct from our supplier in batches on a weekly basis -  we send orders to our supplier every Tuesday and they despatch these orders Wednesday the following week by carrier (on a next day delivery service).

Rootex Root Control Bag (95 Litre)
£26.95 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (95 Litre)A Rootex Bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. A tree grown in a Rootex Bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. These large bags are ideal for large trees such as walnuts, chestnuts and mulberries. Width 45cm x length 45cm x depth 45cm. Capacity: 95 litres.Buy Now
