Medlars produce large white flowers in the spring followed by russety rose-hip type fruits and magnificent orange-red autumn leaf colour. The fruits should be stored for several weeks and eaten after the texture has gone soft, at which stage they develop a lovely caramel-like flavour.  The fruits are excellent eaten raw with wine, port and cheese and can also be used to make an exquisite amber jelly for game and other meats. Medlar trees are hardy but will crop best if positioned in an open, sunny site. This is the most popular and best flavoured variety of medlar. An attractive small tree with a semi-weeping habit.
