If you have ever grown your own strawberries before you will know that the aroma and flavour is far superior to that of shop bought fruit. What’s more, they take up a minimum amount of room and are easy to grow. All they require is a sunny, sheltered spot. Strawberry plants can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart in the open ground. Alternatively they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per growbag), or in hanging baskets or containers. Our hand graded ‘frozen’ (cold-stored) strawberry plants are raised under the PHPS scheme and are guaranteed to be free from pests and diseases. The advantage of ‘frozen’ plants is that they produce fruit the first summer followed by bumper crops for the next 2-3 years.
Raspberries are an excellent crop to grow as once established they will crop heavily, producing up to 1.5kg (over 3lbs) of fruit per cane for 10 years or more. They can be planted as close as 40cm (16in) apart with a gap of 1.5m (5ft) between rows. When planting it is important to choose a well-drained, sunny or semi-shaded spot and to incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure. Our hand graded raspberry canes are raised on selected sites in the UK, inspected by DEFRA for pests and diseases and certified under the Plant Health Propagation Scheme (PHPS).
Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support raspberry canes. For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting raspberries (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
