Pluot Tree 'Purple Candy'

Pluot Tree 'Purple Candy'

Pluot Tree 'Purple Candy' Code: PLM039

£35.95 35.9500 In Stock New

Prunus 'Purple Candy'

This unusual fruit is a complex cross between a plum and an apricot. The large peach-sized fruits are smooth skinned and very juicy (like a plum) and have a unique flavour, much like a blend of fruit juices. They are deliciously flavoured, yielding fruit of incomparable sweetness. This very sweet variety produces large deep purple fruits with yellow-orange flesh that turns crimson red when fully ripe. Excellent sweet flavour. Pluots flower early and therefore require similar growing conditions to apricots - a warm, sheltered site in full sun. They can be trained as a fan or grown as free standing trees.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Season: early September.

Available for delivery: late November - late April.

Apriums and Pluots are interspecific hybrids resulting from the cross-breeding of apricots and plums through multiple generations. They are grown on Montclair rootstock to create a compact tree that is proven to give a heavier crop of larger fruit. They can be trained as a fan on a south or south-west facing wall or fence, 3.6m (12ft) wide and 2m (6ft 6in) high. They can also be grown as free standing bush trees 3.6m (12ft) in height and spread. Trees are available from late November to late April.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order.  All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

Rootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)
£12.50 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)A Rootex bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. These medium sized bags are ideal for smaller trees and figs, which benefit from root restriction. A tree grown in a Rootex bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. Width 30cm x length 30cm x depth 45cm.
