Sibley's Patio Cherry 'Stella'

Sibley's Patio Cherry 'Stella'

Sibley's Patio Cherry 'Stella' Code: CHR017

£35.95 35.9500 In Stock New

This patio version of 'Stella' has been developed by fruit authority Will Sibley, who has for many years been working on a range of fruit trees for the home gardener. It has been grafted onto Gisela 5 dwarfing rootstock using special grafting techniques to keep the tree even more compact. The large dark red fruits are sweet and juicy. The tree has good resistance to bacterial canker and is reliable and heavy cropping. Can be kept restricted to a height of 1.2m (4ft).

Supplied as a one year old tree in a 4 litre pot. The tree is grafted at about 30cm (1ft) above soil level and has 2-3 shoots about 20cm (8in) long that will quickly develop into a bushy head.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Season: late July.

Plant size: 4 litre pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Please note: Sibley's Patio Cherry 'Stella' is excluded from the 'Buy any 2 Pot Grown Fruit Trees SAVE £5' offer.

Cherries are an expensive luxury in the shops so it makes perfect sense to grow your own. In the past cherries were renowned for their excessive vigour, making them inappropriate for small gardens but with the use of modern rootstocks that is no longer the case. Our cherry trees are grafted onto Colt semi-dwarfing rootstock, which will produce a tree of medium vigour that can be trained as a bush, cordon or fan against a wall or fence. Bush cherry trees will grow 2.4-3.6m (8-12ft) in height and spread. Cordons should be restricted to 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) in height and can be spaced 90cm (3ft) apart. We offer a range of cherries that are suitable for smaller gardens throughout the U.K. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot. With the exception of Sibley's Patio Cherry and 'Garden Bing', trees are supplied bare-rooted and will be 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft) high on despatch. Trees are available from late November to late April.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order. All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
