Strawberry Plants 'Sonata' (12 plants)

Strawberry Plants 'Sonata' (12 plants) Code: STR013

£15.95 inc. p&p 15.9500 In Stock New

Fragaria x ananassa 'Sonata'

This new heavy cropping midseason strawberry is very popular with commercial growers and is equally suited to garden cultivation. The fruits are larger and sweeter than Elsanta and appear to stand up well to spells of exceptionally hot weather and heavy rain. Resistant to powdery mildew. Very good sweet flavour.

RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: mid Summer (mid June - late July).

Available for delivery: October & November (fresh dug plants), March - late June (coldstored plants).

If you have ever grown your own strawberries before you will know that the aroma and flavour is far superior to that of shop bought fruit. What’s more, they take up a minimum amount of room and are easy to grow. All they require is a sunny, sheltered spot. Plants can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart in the open ground. Alternatively they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per growbag), or in hanging baskets or containers.

Our hand graded strawberry plants are raised on selected sites in the UK under the Plant Health Propagation Scheme (PHPS) and are guaranteed to be free from pests and diseases.

Fresh dug strawberry runners are available in October and November and will crop the following season. Coldstored strawberry plants are available from March to late June. These will crop 60-90 days after planting.

Strawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)
£15.95 inc. p&pStrawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)Bred in the UK by East Malling Research, this new variety was chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of the research station in 2013 and is considered to be the British strawberry of the future! Bred for the supermarkets but with the aim of putting flavour back into the berry, it has a unique combination of outstanding taste, heavy yields and good shelf life. The fruits are very juicy and the eating quality is consistently good with high sugar levels and an excellent strawberry flavour. We think that Malling Centenary also has great potential as a garden variety - Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. was certainly impressed with the flavour when he was filmed tasting the fruit for the BBC's Great British Food Revival and the variety was shortlisted for 'Plant of the Year' at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.Buy Now
