Blackberry Bush 'Karaka Black'

Blackberry Bush 'Karaka Black' Code: BKB012

£22.95 22.9500 In Stock New

Rubus 'Karaka Black'

With an average berry weight of 10g or more, this new blackberry produces some of the largest fruits we have ever seen. The long, firm, glossy berries are well displayed, easy to pick and have a good flavour. Yields in trials have been outstanding - in New Zealand, where it was bred, it is now the most widely planted variety due to its exceptional performance. The canes are moderately vigorous and although spiny are fairly easy to manage. Ripens early in the season and has a long cropping period, producing high quality fruit for six weeks. Plant 1.8m (6ft) apart.

RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early July - mid Aug.

Plant size: 3 litre pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Blackberries and hybrid berries (arising from crosses between raspberries and blackberries) will thrive under a wide range of site and soil conditions and need not take up much room in your garden. They will tolerate sun or shade and are useful for covering a north facing wall, trellis or fence. With a selection of different varieties it is possible to harvest fruit from early July until the autumn. Although bursting with flavour when eaten fresh, surplus fruit freezes well and can be used to make excellent jam and crumbles! Trained plants can grow and be maintained to a height of 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) and should be planted 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) apart. Pot grown blackberry bushes are available for despatch throughout the year.

Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support blackberry bushes.  For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

(image for) Strawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)
£22.95 inc. p&pStrawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)Bred in the UK by East Malling Research, this new variety was chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of the research station in 2013 and is considered to be the British strawberry of the future! Bred for the supermarkets but with the aim of putting flavour back into the berry, it has a unique combination of outstanding taste, heavy yields and good shelf life. The fruits are very juicy and the eating quality is consistently good with high sugar levels and an excellent strawberry flavour. We think that Malling Centenary also has great potential as a garden variety - Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. was certainly impressed with the flavour when he was filmed tasting the fruit for the BBC's Great British Food Revival and the variety was shortlisted for 'Plant of the Year' at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.Buy Now
