Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Red Pearl'

Lingonberries (also known as cowberries or mountain cranberries) produce juicy tart red berries that are rich in vitamins and can be used for jams, juices and sauces.  The plants are evergreen and are perfect for rockeries, tubs and window boxes as they only reach a maximum height of 15-20cm (6-8 inches) and can be planted 30cm (12in) apart. They are heavier cropping than cranberries, extremely hardy and resistant to pests and diseases. The fruits usually ripen in two flushes – late July and late September.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Plant size: 9cm pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Apart from being fruitful, cranberry bushes have year round ornamental appeal with pretty pink flowers in the summer, dark red berries in the autumn and rich red evergreen foliage in the autumn and winter. Their trailing habit makes them perfect for rockeries, pots, window boxes and hanging baskets. Lingonberry bushes have a more upright habit but will only reach a maximum height of 15-20cm (6-8in) and can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Both these plants are acid loving and therefore make wonderful companions for pot grown blueberries (cranberries will spread along the top of the compost and hang down the sides). Cranberry and Lingonberry bushes are container grown and available for despatch throughout the year.
