Prunus 'Kiku-shidare-zakura' (syn. Prunus 'Cheal's Weeping')

A very popular weeping Japanese flowering cherry suitable for small gardens. A stunning display of double pink spring blossom is followed by the emergence of copper-green foliage that turns to a deeper green as the season progresses.  In autumn the foliage turns to shades of orange-red. Chalk tolerant.

Height x spread in 10 years: up to 2.5m (8ft) x 4m (13ft).

Flowering cherries (Prunus) are very popular ornamental trees renowned for their beautiful spring blossom and autumn foliage. Some (such as Prunus serrula) also have ornamental bark, whilst others (such as Prunus 'Royal Burgundy') have striking foliage. Their flowers range in colour from pure white to dark pink and can be single, double or semi-double. They make fantastic feature trees with forms varying from columnar through to upright, rounded, spreading and weeping. They are easy to grow, doing well in most normal well drained soils. They grow particularly well on chalk but are equally at home in acid soils provided the drainage is reasonable. Flowering cherry trees are grown on semi-dwarfing rootstocks (Colt) to encourage rapid establishment, to minimise any shoots growing from the rootstock and to ensure that in later years the tree remains at a manageable size.

Bare root trees are only available when they are fully dormant (usually from late November/December until late April). Where we quote a height on despatch, this includes the root system.

Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order.  All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

(image for) Rootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)
£16.95 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)A Rootex bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. These medium sized bags are ideal for smaller trees and figs, which benefit from root restriction. A tree grown in a Rootex bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. Width 30cm x length 30cm x depth 45cm. Capacity: 45 litres.Buy Now
