Description

Asparagus officinalis 'Ramires'

NEW! This all male F1 hybrid is popular with commercial growers as it produces heavy crops of thick green spears very early in the season. In comparison to other early varieties, the spear diameter is outstanding (typically in the range of 16-26mm). It can also be grown as white asparagus planted under ridges of light, sandy soil. The flavour is excellent. The plants are suitable for a wide range of soil types and have good resistance to leaf diseases.

RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early.

Asparagus is expensive to buy in the shops but is easy to grow and tastes delicious freshly harvested from the garden. In our opinion there is no other vegetable that beats home-grown asparagus, simply steamed and served with melted butter or Hollondaise sauce. We supply large one year old crowns which will establish quickly so that you can harvest your first crop (we recommend only sparingly) just one year after planting. Plants should be spaced 38cm (15in) apart in rows 1m (3ft) apart.
