rootgrow™ Mycorrhizal Fungi

rootgrow™ Mycorrhizal Fungi is the ONLY plant or soil treatment to be endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society and will give your plants the best possible start if used at the time of planting.

rootgrow™ Mycorrhizal Fungi forms a natural partnership with your plants’ root system, creating an extensive network of beneficial fungi that helps the plant access more water and nutrients from the surrounding soil.

Applied just once at planting, rootgrow™ encourages stronger root establishment, improved drought tolerance and healthier, more resilient growth. In just 2-4 weeks the fungal relationship will begin to form and the fungi continue working throughout the lifetime of the plant, supporting establishment and healthy ongoing growth. Standard rootgrow™ (green packs, orange packs of rootgrow™ Gel and all our professional tubs) is suitable for all your fruit plantings except blueberries and cranberries, these acid loving plants have their own special mycorrhizal fungi partners which can be found in rootgrow™ ericoid (see pack with pink flowers on). Both types of mycorrhizal fungi are applied in the same way.

How to use rootgrow™ on pot grown trees and plants

  1. Dig a planting hole wide enough to comfortably accommodate the root ball.
  2. Sprinkle the recommended amount of rootgrow™ evenly into the base of the planting hole.
  3. Place the plant directly onto the granules, ensuring the roots are in direct contact with the mycorrhizal fungi.
  4. Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.

How to use rootgrow™ on bare root trees and plants

For small plants such as strawberries and raspberry canes the above method can be used with granules added to the planting hole or alternatively you can wet the roots and sprinkle the granules on before planting in the ground.

If you have got quite a few trees or hedging plants to plant, we recommend using rootgrow™ Gel or rootgrow™ Professional Tubs – these include a separate sachet of gel which can be mixed with water, making a dip, to help stick the granules to the plants’ roots.

  1. Mix the gel according to the pack instructions.
  2. Dip the bare roots into the gel mixture so they are well coated.
  3. Plant immediately, ensuring the roots are naturally spread out.
  4. Backfill with soil, firm gently and water well.
