Walnut 'Buccaneer'
This walnut tree is well suited to UK growing conditions, producing heavy crops of round nuts from an early age. Particularly suited for pickled walnuts. Self-fertile. Supplied in a 5L pot / approximately 70cm high.
Cobnuts and filberts are related species of hazelnut (Corylus). They are both small trees that which bear separate male and female flowers at the same time. The male flowers are the familiar catkins and the female flowers are small, red and unobtrusive. They are wind pollinated and two varieties are needed to ensure good cross-pollination and should be planted next to one anther to aid this process.
Cobnuts naturally grow as multi-stemmed bushes. The trees should be kept down to a height of 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) and should be spaced 4.5m (15ft) apart.
Don't forget to include tree stakes and ties on your order. All young fruit trees require staking and for better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
