£16.50 16.5000 In Stock New

Rubus fruiticosus 'Loch Tay'

This new blackberry variety is already very popular with commercial growers and is the preferred variety of the supermarkets, particularly Waitrose. It produces heavy crops of shiny black berries that are large (4.5-5g) and have an excellent flavour. The plant is compact and the canes are thornless and easy to train. Plant 1.8m (6ft) apart.

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Award of Garden Merit  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early July - mid Aug.

Plant size: 3 litre pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Blackberries and hybrid berries (arising from crosses between raspberries and blackberries) will thrive under a wide range of site and soil conditions and need not take up much room in your garden. They will tolerate sun or shade and are useful for covering a north facing wall, trellis or fence. With a selection of different varieties it is possible to harvest fruit from early July until the autumn. Although bursting with flavour when eaten fresh, surplus fruit freezes well and can be used to make excellent jam and crumbles! Trained plants can grow and be maintained to a height of 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) and should be planted 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) apart. Pot grown blackberry bushes are available for despatch throughout the year.

Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support blackberry bushes.  For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
