Fragaria x ananassa 'Vibrant'

A fantastic new early variety to start the season! Bred and selected by East Malling Research, Vibrant has rapidly become established amongst commercial growers as the premier early variety and is an excellent choice for the garden. Vibrant produces medium to large bright red berries that are very sweet and flavoursome to taste. The plants are heavy cropping and resistant to powdery mildew and crown rot. Double cropping in the main crop year can occur if July temperatures are relatively low with surprisingly good fruit being produced in September.

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Award of Garden Merit  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early Summer (June - early July).

Available for delivery: mid October - late November (fresh dug plants), March - early July (coldstored plants).

If you have ever grown your own strawberries before you will know that the aroma and flavour is far superior to that of shop bought fruit. What’s more, they take up a minimum amount of room and are easy to grow. All they require is a sunny, sheltered spot. Plants can be spaced 30cm (12in) apart in the open ground. Alternatively they can be grown in growbags (10 plants per growbag), or in hanging baskets or containers.

Our hand graded strawberry plants are raised on selected sites in the UK under the Plant Health Propagation Scheme (PHPS) and are guaranteed to be free from pests and diseases.

Unless otherwise stated in the product description, fresh dug strawberry runners are available from mid October to late November and will crop the following season. Coldstored strawberry plants are available from March to early July. These will crop 60-90 days after planting. Please note, some varieties (where stated in the product description) are only available as coldstored plants.

Strawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)
£17.95 inc. p&pStrawberry Plants 'Malling Centenary' (12 plants)Bred in the UK by East Malling Research, this new variety was chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of the research station in 2013 and is considered to be the British strawberry of the future! Bred for the supermarkets but with the aim of putting flavour back into the berry, it has a unique combination of outstanding taste, heavy yields and good shelf life. The fruits are very juicy and the eating quality is consistently good with high sugar levels and an excellent strawberry flavour. We think that Malling Centenary also has great potential as a garden variety - Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. was certainly impressed with the flavour when he was filmed tasting the fruit for the BBC's Great British Food Revival and the variety was shortlisted for 'Plant of the Year' at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.Buy Now
Rootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)
£14.95 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)A Rootex bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. These medium sized bags are ideal for smaller trees and figs, which benefit from root restriction. A tree grown in a Rootex bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. Width 30cm x length 30cm x depth 45cm. Capacity: 45 litres.Buy Now
