This collection consists of 2 honeyberry varieties, chosen specifically for flavour and the sweetness of the berries. If you want to eat the berries fresh, this is the collection for you. You will receive 1 each of the following:
Lonicera caerulea var. edulis 'Aurora'
NEW! This superb variety was bred in Canada at the University of Saskatchewan and set a new standard for honeyberries. It was specifically selected for its flavour from around 10,000 seedlings that were bred over a period of 10 years. Tests have shown that the large, oval fruits have around half the acidity of most other honeyberry varieties, which makes them taste considerably sweeter. The berries are delicious eaten fresh but also suitable for freezing, baking and making in to smoothies. The bush is heavy cropping. Ripens mid season.
Lonicera caerulea var. turczaninowii 'Blue Banana'
NEW! Originating from Russia, this honeyberry is one of the best for eating fresh. The berries are notable for their exceptionally sweet, tangy flavour which are reminiscent of tropical fruits. The large banana shaped fruits are up to 3cm long and are lovely eaten fresh, but also suitable for freezing, juicing and baking. The bush is heavy cropping and can produce up to 4.5kg of berries. Ripens early/mid season.
Pollination: Honeyberry plants are not self-fertile and it is important to plant two different varieties that flower at a similar time for cross-pollination. The two varieties in this collection are compatible pollination partners.
