Rubus idaeus 'Glen Mor'

NEW! Described as a game-changer, this new early variety has bomb-proof resistance to Raspberry Root Rot so is an ideal choice for wetter soils. The berries are consistently large throughout the season and have a superb, sweet flavour. The berries ripen around 9 days ahead of Glen Ample and cropping is over a 5-6 week period. Yields are heavier than Glen Ample and after a hot summer, the spine-free canes can fruit at the tips in the autumn.

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: early Summer (late June - late July).

Available for delivery: late November/December - late April.

Here, you can browse Pomona Fruits’ superb range of raspberry canes, grown in the UK. We understand the joy and excitement that comes with growing these delectable berries. Our range of raspberry varieties is designed to cater to every gardener’s aspirations, from the novice to the seasoned horticulturist.

Our hand graded raspberry canes are raised on selected sites in the UK, inspected by DEFRA for pests and diseases and certified under the Plant Health Propagation Scheme (PHPS). Bare root raspberry canes are available from late November to late April.

Are you yearning for the incomparable taste of home-grown raspberries but feel daunted by the prospect of establishing your own bed? We empathise with your concerns and are here to guide you through the process. Our range of bare-root raspberry canes for sale offer not only a cost-effective solution but also a robust start to your raspberry-growing journey.

There are two main types of raspberry canes: summer-fruiting and autumn-fruiting. By cultivating both types, gardeners can enjoy a bountiful harvest spanning several months.

Summer-fruiting raspberry canes (floricanes):

  • Typically grow to heights of at least 1.8m (6ft).
  • Require a space of 40cm (16in) between plants with a gap of 1.5m (5ft) between rows.
  • Need to be supported on posts and wires.
  • Produce fruit on the two year old cane so new plants begin fruiting from their second summer onwards.
  • Produce berries from early to late summer, depending on the variety.

Autumn-fruiting raspberry canes (primocanes):

  • Generally more compact, reaching heights of 1.2-1.5m (4-5ft).
  • Require a space of 40cm (16in) between plants with a gap of 1.5m (5ft) between rows.
  • Do not necessarily need supporting in sheltered gardens.
  • Can also be grown in pots.
  • Notably easier to prune.
  • Bear fruit from late summer until the first frosts.
  • Produce berries on the one year old cane so new plants produce a crop in their first year after planting.

Are you concerned about the space required for raspberry canes? We understand completely. While traditional summer fruiting varieties can be vigorous and need to be supported on posts and wires, we also offer compact autumn fruiting cultivars that are perfect for smaller gardens and can be grown without the need for support in sheltered gardens. You don’t need an expansive plot to enjoy these luscious berries.

Raspberries require well-drained soil as they are prone to root rot in waterlogged conditions. If your garden has heavy clay or tends to retain water, consider planting raspberries in a raised bed to improve drainage and create a more suitable environment.

At Pomona Fruits, we’re passionate about helping you create your own raspberry paradise. That’s why when you buy raspberry canes from us, you’ll receive comprehensive care instructions. From soil preparation to pruning techniques, we’re here to guide you every step of the way, giving you the confidence to grow your own raspberries.

Embrace the opportunity to grow your own raspberries and savour the unparalleled taste of freshly picked fruit. With Pomona Fruits, you’re not merely purchasing plants; you’re investing in years of fruitful harvests, delightful summer desserts, and the profound satisfaction of growing your own fruit.

Browse our selection of raspberry canes today and allow us to assist you in choosing the perfect varieties for your garden. Whether you’re captivated by the heavy crops of ‘Glen Ample’ or the extended season and compact growing habit of ‘Autumn Bliss’, we have a large range of raspberry canes to transform your garden into a berry lover’s paradise.

Don’t forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support raspberry canes. For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
