This collection consists of 2 saskatoon bushes, 1 each of the following:

Saskatoon 'Sleyt'

NEW! This variety is the best one to grow if space is limited as it is more compact than other Saskatoon varieties. The bush is very productive, producing heavy crops of sweet berries that are dark purple when fully ripe and lovely eaten fresh. Due to its compact habit it is ideal for growing in a pot.

Saskatoon 'Smokey'

NEW! This is the sweetest flavoured variety of saskatoon, regarded as the best for eating fresh. Ideal if you want to sprinkle a few berries on your cereal in the morning! Reliable and very heavy cropping and grown commercially for fruit production in the UK.

Pollination: Self-fertile.

Saskatoon bushes (Amelanchier alnifolia) are native to Canada but are now being grown as a commercial crop in the UK. High in vitamin C and antioxidants, the berries are purple-black when fully ripe and have a distinctive flavour - tasting like a mixture of cherry and blueberry with undertones of marzipan! They are lovely eaten fresh but can also be used in pies, crumbles, muffins and jams. A saskatoon bush will also add ornamental value to the garden. The clusters of white flowers, borne in the spring are very showy and the leaves turn to shades of gold and red in the autumn. Saskatoons are easy to grow and the bushes are extremely hardy (down to -20°C). Plant 3m (10ft) apart in any well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Saskatoons are self-fertile but planting two different varieties will improve pollination. Plants are usually available throughout the year.

Please note - where we quote a height on despatch, this is measured from the base of the pot.

For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).
