Rubus 'Black Cascade'

The first of its kind, this cascading blackberry is suitable for growing in a patio container or hanging basket. ‘Black Cascade’ produces masses of large, sweet tasting berries on thornless arching stems. Due to its primocane habit (cropping on the one year old cane) it is easy to manage and will crop in its first year. We recommend planting one plant per 35-40cm (14-16in) basket, although in the first year, for greater effect you can plant three plants per basket. When fully mature, each plant will produce up to 2.8lbs (1.3kg) of fruit. Eventual height x spread: 30cm (12in) x 18in (45cm).

RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Season: Aug - Oct.

Plant size: 9cm pot.

Available for delivery: all year.

Blackberries and hybrid berries (arising from crosses between raspberries and blackberries) will thrive under a wide range of site and soil conditions and need not take up much room in your garden. They will tolerate sun or shade and are useful for covering a north facing wall, trellis or fence. With a selection of different varieties it is possible to harvest fruit from early July until the autumn. Although bursting with flavour when eaten fresh, surplus fruit freezes well and can be used to make excellent jam and crumbles! Trained plants can grow and be maintained to a height of 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) and should be planted 1.8-2.4m (6-8ft) apart. Pot grown blackberry bushes are available for despatch throughout the year.

Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support blackberry bushes.  For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

£38.95Sibley's Patio Gage 'Oullins Golden Gage'This patio version of Oullins Golden Gage has been developed by fruit authority Will Sibley, who has for many years been working on a range of fruit trees for the home gardener. It has been grafted onto VVA1 dwarfing rootstock using special grafting techniques to keep the tree even more compact. Rated by the Victorian writer Hogg as having "exquisite flavour and handsome appearance" this old French variety is more like a plum than a true gage. The fruits are large by gage standards and particularly attractive - golden yellow with faint red spots. Eaten fresh, the flesh is sweet and gage-like with a fruity flavour, far superior to most shop-brought plums. The fruits are also excellent cooked and freeze very well.
