£44.95 inc. p&pGripple Wire Tensioning KitThe Gripple system is the fastest way to support climbing plants, fruits and vegetables, removing the need to work with awkward and unmanageable metal wire. It is ideal for raspberries, blackberries, grape vines and trained fruit trees. The system can be used on walls, fences and posts. Easy to use - the solid U.V. stabilized nylon wire is fed through vine eyes or around posts and is automatically tensioned as it passes back through the unique push-fit Gripple Tensioner. It is easily pulled tight by hand and slack can be taken up by pulling more wire through. The Gripple system will support up to 100kg (220lbs) of load. There is no metal at all so nothing to rust.Buy Now

Bred in the U.K.  RHS Award of Garden Merit  RHS Perfect for Pollinators

Pollination: Group B.

Season: late Aug - Sept.

Stepovers are ideal for planting at the front of ornamental borders and vegetable plots to form a low edging that is both attractive and productive. Cultivated since Victorian times, they are basically one tier espaliers that are low enough to simply ‘step over’ where necessary. This form is ideal for apples and pears, but is not really suitable for stone fruits. Allow 2.4-3.5m (8-12ft) total spread per tree.

These trees are not ready trained as stepover apple and pear trees. They are one year old maiden apple and pear trees that are suitable for training in situ as stepovers.

Looking for a more insantaneous effect?

If you don't have the time to train your own trees, we do also offer a range of stepover apple and pear trees that are already semi-trained. However, if you are planning to plant a line of stepovers and it is important to you that they are all exactly the same height, we recommend that you purchase one year old maiden trees for training as you can then train the trees in situ and achieve a uniform height. This cannot be guaranteed with our semi-trained trees.

Don't forget to include a Gripple Wire Tensioning Kit on your order, the easy way to support stepover fruit trees. For better establishment we strongly advise using Rootgrow when planting (as recommended in RHS planting guidelines).

(image for) Rootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)
£16.95 inc. p&pRootex Root Control Bag (45 Litre)A Rootex bag will produce a tree with more fibrous roots, reduced vigour and will promote early fruiting. Rootex is a special patented copper coated fabric. When the root tip comes into contact with the copper it stops growing, the apical dominance is interrupted and new feeder (fibrous) roots develop further back towards the tree. This prevents roots from circling and enables better absorption of water and nutrients. Rootex is permeable, allowing water and nutrients to pass through it. These medium sized bags are ideal for smaller trees and figs, which benefit from root restriction. A tree grown in a Rootex bag can be transplanted to another site without damage to the root system even 10 years after it was originally planted. Width 30cm x length 30cm x depth 45cm. Capacity: 45 litres.Buy Now
